  Was a special treat for my partner's 30th birthday, and Hambleton Hall and the team really did their bit to make it special! Food is excellent (as you'd expect from their Michelin star rating), but the service was simply something else. The staff really went the extra mile to make you feel valued. In summary, expensive, but so very worth it!

  OK but not for the price ... We were told to arrive at 1pm sharp but weren't seated until nearly 2pm. We were given two small canapes each during this time and after our aperitif order was delivered we were ignored. The maître d' was rather huffy when asked when we would be seated and then when we were finally taken to our table we were again ignored for what seemed like an eternity before the first course was delivered. We were all absolutely starving by this time. On the plus side the food was good and young sommelier was very nice, as were all the waiting staff - although we found out that our cheeseboard 'expert' was in fact a barman. Very disappointed that our request to subsitute a cheese plate for pudding for 3 of our guests who don't have a sweet tooth was refused. At the end of the meal it was assumed that we all wanted petit fours and coffee (including our 11 year old daughter!) for which there was an additional charge to already quite substantial cost of the tasting menu. An extra wine was charged (as well as the wine for each course of the tasting menu) - we don't know why but didn't notice until we had left. It also appears that we were charged for tap water. The setting for Hambleton Hall is lovely but the ambience and experience were very dated.

  Unbelievable food - creative combinations executed with real skill. Service was impeccable - knowledgeable, courteous and enthusiastic. We didn't stay at the hotel, so can't comment on the rooms, but the environment downstairs was gorgeous.
